1) Thanks for great summary!
2) Sorry to be horribly behind with everything, but I
had two equally horrible days at work.
OK, questions:

[Q: Had Black really meant to kill him then? It was a
very dangerous prank, but was it cruelty on Black's
part or thoughtlessness?]

Sorry to have to come back to something I already said
some time ago, but I think that, knowing Severus and
his skills, Black thought he would have easily
defended himself. It was thoughtlessness and above all
it was extremely stupid, because one of those two,
Severus or Sirius, could almost certainly have died in
the adventure. IMO, the risk would have been greater
for Sirius. Therefore, my theory is that James went
after Severus less to save *him* than to save Sirius.
Afterwards, it looked as if he had saved Snape and
James certainly didn't do anything to correct this.

[Q: What's wrong with a <BR>
broomstick? Why did they need Buckbeak?]

Well, I think that, if Dumbledore had told them they
might save *two* innocent lives instead of only one,
that somehow exluded the possibility of using Harry's
broomstick and saving "only" Sirius. And I'm of the
same opinion with others who have answered that a
broomstick might not be able to carry more than one
person.

[Q: Is there some rule as to what shape a Patronus
takes? If so, what is the rule? What can we conclude
about it from Harry's Patronus? Did anybody read this
bit without tears in her/his eyes?]

As Dumbledore says, this is one of the deepest secrets
of magic. What seemed strange to me is that we hear
nothing as to the forms of Lupin's and Dumbledore's
patroni- they are referred to as "silvery things". IMO
the form of the patronus is clear only to the person
who conjures it- the others just see "something
silvery".

[Q: Why?? How can he hate him so much as to want him
to receive the Kiss? Is it reasonable for a boy's
grudge to be taken to such an extreme?]

Certainly, we have discussed this over and over and my
views of the problem might not be very original any
more, but there you go:
IMO, "boy's grudge" is not quite the right way of
seeing it. They were 16, maybe 17, at the time- not 10
or 11. At that age, you are expected to take your
responsibilties and to foresee the consequences of
what you do.
Let's put aside the fact that I'm emotionalyy involved
with Snape ;). But he was an extremely talented
wizard, knowing a lot more than his peers (at least
about Dark Arts), but obviously very self-controlled.
I suppose he expected the same sense of responsibility
and self- control of others and therefore took a mere
prank as a carefully planned attack at his life.
I don't think (see: self- control) he would really
have handed Sirius to the Dementors. But menacing him
and seeing his reaction must have been quite
satisfactory.

[Q: In what way will this happen? Is the bond that
Dumbledore refers to a magical bond or a moral bond?]

Difficult to separate, isn't it? Might fit into the
category of "Ancient Magic", like Lily's sacrifice out
of love for her child.
