Perhaps I was seeing this through Harry's eyes when he was in 
Dumbledore's Pensieve.  At the time, he seemed to be under the 
impression that Crouch, Jr. was innocent (wrong place at wrong time) 
and that his father was merely coming after him to not seem biased, 
so that folks knew he could get the job done even when it was his own 
son who was brought up on charges of being a Death Eater.  That was 
his public face, of course; behind the scenes, he helped his son and 
wife pull that swap that resulted in GoF.  So yeah, I'll concede it 
was good that he was discredited; but did he pull the switch after he 
was discredited, and did that in fact lead to his being motivated to 
do it out of a kind of spite?  If only JKR would tell us...
