>I am beginning to think that everyone on this list hates Snape...it's rather
disturbing to me
I, for one, really hate Snape. I have a very keen sense of justice, and I just find Snape's vengeful, nasty attitude to be horrible.
Using your power over a weaker or lesser adversity is not strength, it is sheer cowardice and bullying. Using your position as supervisor to a subordinate to exact revenge is inappropriate under any circumstance. Abusing a position of trust such as that of teacher to student is absolutely unforgivable, and can cause lasting damage.
For students of strength of character such as H/H/R, this is bad enough. To inflict it on people like Neville is nothing short of child abuse.
You'll notice that Snape goes particularly for the weakest victim...in this case, Neville. Never confuse bullying with strength. True strength lies in having power and knowing when NOT to use it.
This is a rather passionate response...I was on the receiving end of a lot of bullying at school, it tends to give you a different perspective. Having said all this, I do respect your right to your own opinion!
Love Glenda
