There was a thread not too long ago about the idea of the "End of an
Era." One hypothesis that popped up was that Dumbledore would be
removed as Headmaster, due to his rift with Fudge regarding the
return of Voldemort. If the school's board of governors is swayed to
replace Dumbledore, and if they are still influenced by the lovable
Lucius Malfoy, might they not push for Snape to be Headmaster?
Granted Snape was not at the graveyard with V., and might be under
suspicion, but perhaps all these closet Death Eaters would consider
see this as a test of Snape's loyalty to them. "We'll make you
headmaster, and you then run the school as we see fit. Expel all the
Mudbloods." Life would certainly be interesting for Severus, no?
