Matt, the same question occurred me to long ago! That was before I
happily discovered this group and was patronizing the alt.fan.h-p
newsgroup. I started a thread that I couldn't resist calling "Ask
Peeves," but alas, no one seemed to come up with a decent answer.
One person did suggest that Madam Pince is the type of librarian who
dislikes people touching her books; the foreword to QTTA seems to
agree with that assessment. Perhaps the Librarian in UU on the
Discworld would agree too. :) But it doesn't satisfy me. This isn't
just *any* library, it's a *school* library! As such, there ought to
be some kind of catalog in place. Even if it's just the equivalent of
the Dewey Decimal system rather than a charm that sends your wand
whizzing off to touch books with the pertinent information, there
ought to be *something*.
