There may well be something that we just havent heard about yet.  We 
know that there is some sort of categorization system because when 
(in PS/SS) the trio are trying to find out what Hagrid is up to they 
go to the section of the library that Hagrid has taken a book from.  
In that section they find books on dragon-raising.  That seems to 
imply a basic-level, Dewey Decimal-type system which gives info on 
title, author, publisher and maybe a few subject categories, but 
would not give you info on whether any particular book contained a 
word such as "Flamel" or a phrase such as "substance which allows one 
to breathe under water."

Actually, that doesnt really exist in the muggle world yet, either.  
You would think it would be a cinch for wizards though -- just put a 
"Indexus Totalus" charm on the whole library.
