Voldemort had a witch mother and a muggle father. I'm not sure which 
book this is in but his dad chucked his mum out after he discovered 
she was a witch. That's why our half-blood Voldemort hates muggles. 
As well as the fact he was raised in a muggle orphanage and since he 
never wanted to go home for the holidays you can realise that he 
probably didn't have a good time there.
