Which brings to mind another question I've been chewing on about
Fawkes: Is there more there with him than meets the eye? He is a very
powerful bird and it seems rather extraordinary that Dumbledore should
have him as a pet. As an immortal bird, who did he belong to before
Dumbledore got him? Who will he belong to next?(the liklihood is that
it will be Harry). And what does that say bout the person, if such a
noble bird as the phoenix takes a liking to you?

I'm beginning to believe that the connection between Harry,
Dumbledore and Fawkes is foreshadowing(?) of some special relationship
between Godric Gryffindor, Dumbledore and Harry. Exactly what, I'm not
sure. My 8 year old believes that Gryffindor was an animagus and became
Fawkes, thereby ensuring his immortality and ever-present support
against the Forces of Evil. I don't think it's a bad theory, maybe a
little too all-encompassing, but great for a kid her age.
