Hi Penny -
I may actually have a real life answer to this one. Here in NYC,m
high school students take class exams and then state exams (called
Regents and RCTs). After all the exams are over, there are still
several days of school left that teachers use to clean up, have staff
parties and so on. I believe that students are, technically, supposed
to attend on one or two of those days, but they do not. I could be
wrong about that, but that extra day or two can be for students to
find out exam grades, pick up projects, clean out lockers, etc.
Maybe those last few days of classes at Hogwarts are for exam results
and review, and possibly to get summer assignments (remember Harry's
essay at the beginning of PoA?).
That could justify what JKR wrote, but really, Penny, I think it's a
Flint. I noticed it too.
