Sure you can, because the "well-placed" part doesn't refer to the words of
the spell, but where the 'Jelly Legs Jinx' manifested.  The Shield spell is
supposed to shield against certain spells, but like any other normal shield
(i.e. not a tower shield), you can hit above or below it.

So all it means is that Hermione aimed too high or too low for Harry to
catch it.
