Go ahead, I only meant *I* should get onto other subjects.

Well, there is Harry himself. In what way(s) is he different from other people/wizards?

> I also confess to a lingering curiosity about Dumbledore's semi-illiterate brother Aberforth. Is he still kicking, or did he fall in the Dark Years? Is he hiding out with his goat somewhere practising experimental charms? I also expect an appearance from Fridwulfa in Book 5, which should be interesting. Hagrid re-united with his mother, well, well.

Ah!, now I want to meet Mortlake with his extremely odd ferrets.

(Good stuff snipped)

>I'd say this suggests that Snape's DE connection has something to do with the Malfoys. Which, I might add, hints at an explanation for some of his behaviour. Why he favours Draco so blatantly, and gets along famously with Lucius ("Why don't you apply to be head of Hogwarts, sir? Father will vote for you..."), perhaps even why he's so horrible to most of his students. Remember that Lucius was, until the end of CoS, Head of School Council or some such. Could it be that Lucius is Snape's go-between with Voldemort, and vouches for Snape's continued DE status to him (hence the need to keep Draco fooled)? Might that secret chamber in the Malfoy mansion have some significance here? Does Snape perhaps polyjuice into Lucius and snuck off to DE meetings? Given that Sirius (I think) mentioned that Snape was one of a group of Slytherins who all become DEs, I'd say they may have been at school together, which could be where it all began...

Board of Governers - all schools have them here. Yes, on the Neville and Snape thread I considered suggesting a touching scene with Snape and Lucius at baby Draco's dedication (or Voldination, or whatever DEs do with their kids) being broken up by a surprise attack by Neville's parents.

I don't think Malfoy and Snape can be contemporaries, though. If they were, it would have put Malfoy with MWPP as well, and we never hear anything about any of them from Draco - whereas he says a lot about the Weasleys - he may have been around with Arthur and Molly. We know he is post-Riddle as the first opening of the COS was 'before his time'. And they feel like a classic one-child-late-in-life family to me.

I like the idea of Snape casually going up to Malfoy and trying to grab a hair or extract bodily fluids (over to you, vampire fans) for polyjuice potion: "really, Severus, I know you worship the ground I walk on, but you go too far". Snape is probably the one person who could impersonate Malfoy and get away with it - wait - perhaps they *swap places* and it's really Lucius who takes those lessons...

David,
