I say: There has got to be different forms of the letters, depending
on the background of the prospective student. Hermione's (and other
muggle-borns, i.e. the Creevey's) letter explained about Hogwarts,
the secret wizarding world, and of course, how to get into Daigon
Alley and where Platform 9 and 3/4 is and how to get onto it.
I would venture to say that persons with magical ability born of
muggle parents ARE able to see the Leaky Cauldron. Harry mentions
this when Hagrid first takes him to Diagon Alley. He says something
to the effect of it looked like they were the only ones that COULD
see it. Therefore, Hermione's letter would have directions to the
muggle world road in London that the Leaky Cauldron is on and
explains where it is and tells her that only she will be able to see
it at first, until she actually physically points it out to her
parents, who will then be able to see it. And as far as getting into
Daigon Alley (you need a wand), I'm sure folks in the Leaky Cauldron
notice when muggles walk in, and figure, that since they are
accompanied by an 11 year old, they are looking for Daigon Alley to
buy supplies for Hogwarts. In my opinion, all the folks that
frequent the Leaky Cauldron are nice people that are willing to help
out.
Harry, on the other hand, being born of magic parents, is supposed to
know these things. They didn't count on the fact that the Dursley's
were narrow-minded gits that didn't tell him about his parents and
his true nature.
