Sam replied:
Perhaps Godric's Hollow is like Hogwarts in that you
can't apparate to or disapparate from the premises.
Perhaps they did this so that none of their enemies
could apparate into their home at any time.
It's my understanding that you can't disapparate from
a place you can't apparate to (from what Hermione
tells us in GoF, about apparition regarding Hogwarts),
so maybe this is why they didn't (couldn't)
disapparate.

It does seem very likely that some form of ward would
be erected to stop dis/apparition at Godrics Hollow. I
also get the impression that apparition probably
leaves some form of trail which could easily be traced
and followed from place to place (otherwise what is to
stop younger witches and wizards getting their elder
siblings to teach them how to apparate in order to do
it illegally). If this is the case once Voldie had
arrived at the Potters apparition would allow them to
prolong their existance but not escape.
