This is my first response to Chapter Summary Questions, but one of my, um, I
guess they'd be end-of-the-month resolutions is to be more active on the
list, so here goes nothing. Great summary and questions, Amber (and I loved
the parody version, too...)!
> 1) When Harry thinks that Malfoy might've sent Dobby, did you think that
as
> well? Did you think it was a simple joke? Or did you think there was
> something more to Dobby's message?
Honestly, I've reread the books so many times it's hard to remember what I
thought before I knew the endings and had analyzed everything with all of
you brilliant people. I did take it seriously, since Dobby was so earnest.
At the same time, I didn't really understand why they assumed Draco was
behind it right away. I think to the trio, he's just the bad guy, the one
who they automatically assume is responsible for anything nasty that happens
to them.
> 2) What did you think when first read about Percy acting strange? Did you
> automatically think that it was because of a girl?
I thought it was typical Percy-ness... Maybe he was absorbed in a really
great book or writing a fascinating treatise and couldn't be bothered to
interact with his silly brothers. It was, and still is hard for me to see
Percy with a girlfriend, just because of the way Ron and the other brothers
describe him. It's hard to imagine any girl can put up with his smarminess
and general anal nature. But then, I'm sure we get a one-sided view of him
from his brothers.
> 3) How do you think the twins knew how to drive/fly a car? They're only
> about 14 years old at the time and as wizards, would not be familiar with
> it. And they obviously had to use magic to start it up (Ron uses his wand
to
> start the ignition in Chapter Five). Why didn't the Ministry send them a
> warning for using magic during holidays?
Since there's not much traffic up in the air (I don't think?), they probably
didn't have to be very familiar with the mechanics of driving. It's more an
issue of guiding the car in the right direction, and the compass would take
car of that. Maybe they went to a wizarding arcade, and practiced driving
the simulator cars ; ) As for the Ministry question, I'm sure they're used
to magic from the Weasley household what with all of Fred and George's
hijinx. They might also have been shown a little favoritism because of
Arthur's position... maybe only the most serious infractions are dealt with.
> 4) Do you think the Weasley twins and Ron really thought they could get
away
> with Harry just showing up? The excuse 'Mum, look who turned up in the
> night!' is a pretty flimsy explanation. Do they really underestimate their
> mother that much?
I don't think it's a question of underestimating her as much as putting
Harry above themselves. They were so worried about him, they didn't really
think out a thorough excuse. Plus, they probably figured that Molly would
be so happy to see Harry that she wouldn't care how he got there.
> 5) Do you think the Weasley's always de-gnome the garden by swinging the
> gnomes around in circles? Or do you think it was just because it was a
> punishment?
They probably just did it by hand for punishment, like Ron had to scrub the
school trophies without magic as a detention.
> 6) Obligatory Silly Question: do you want a Chudley Cannons poster? I sure
> do...
I'd settle for any magical photo! I'm fascinated by why/how they move.
