If spells hit another spell they rebound - Hermione's teeth. If Harry's protection counts as magical, that might explain it.

Thank you Amanda for good thoughts on the rebirthing spell.

Something that has always puzzled me about this: in COS, Harry says 'nobody knows why you lost your powers', and then explains why he survived (and even that is a deduction from Dumbledore's remarks about Quirrell at the end of PS - Dumbledore never says straight out that Lily's love or sacrifice saved Harry that night). Tom Riddle accepts the explanation as making sense, and calls it a lucky chance.

Later, in GOF, Voldemort makes it clear that the spell did rebound. Does this mean that only he has been able to understand this because he experienced it? Or that he is wrong and other factors were at work? Or that Dumbledore does know and Harry doesn't realise it? Or that D and others know it rebounded, but don't know why?

It's interesting to note that although Voldemort is pretty certain that the spell did rebound, he does not really know why he survived. He just says that some of his preparations must have worked, and that he ought to have died. He also calls Harry's survival a lucky chance.

On the link between harry and Voldemort. It's apparent that there is a bit of V in Harry: the scar, the 'memory' of T.M. Riddle, Parseltongue (though strictly speaking Dumbledore only conjectures this last). These things do not seem to be working against Harry in any way - even the dreams, over which he has least control, function to him as warnings. I would say that it's therefore unlikely that Harry's blood in Voldemort is going to be working against Voldemort in a direct fashion.

Happy Harry Potter Birthday
