Something I noticed in re-reading CoS today - this is (I believe) the first
time we see anyone cast Expelliarmus:
"Both of them swung their wands above their heads and pointed them at their
opponent; Snape cried: "Expelliarmus!" There was a dazzling flash of scarlet
light and Lockhart was blasted off his feet: He flew backward off the stage,
smashed into the wall, and slid down it to sprawl on the floor." (Ch. 11,
'The Dueling Club')
In this case, it's likely that the red light from Harry's wand in the duel
with Voldemort was just a result of the spell he chose. Perhaps certain
colors are just tied to certain spells - although, other than this and Avada
Kedavra, I don't seem to remember any others associated with colors.
