Not much of a sports fan either, but I do know that in football - alright,
"soccer" if you must :) - a free shot at goal with only the keeper to beat
is generally referred to as a penalty, not a penalty shot. It is awarded to
the side that was fouled, and against the side doing the fouling. Regarding
any other confusion over this passage, surely the Slyths are cheering
because the penalty was missed?
"The referee may award penalties against a team. The Chaser taking the
penalty will fly from the central circle towards the scoring area. All
players other than the opposing Keeper must keep well back while the penalty
is taken."
