Animagus vs. Transfigured (Malfoy)

Isn't it plainly stated in GOF from Hermione that animal
transformations are "advanced transfiguration"?  This would NOT (I
repeat NOT NOT NOT) be Animagi, but rather a incomplete, extremely
crude form of animal-form, whereas Animagi is complete animal-form
assumption.  PLUS, I do dislike how people use something meant to be
completely obscure in the books (Animagi) and use them as a common
explanation for anything.  It really bugs me (ie, Animagus, Squibs,
and other wizarding-world-rarieties used for speculation)--Personally
I equate these to someone using something like...erm, being born with
a sixth toe or something!
