Movie question that's kinda confusing...

Just realized this. This is from the Time Magazine article, as quoted 
by the Leaky Cauldron:

"Audiences will see Norbert hatch from his bowling ball-size egg and 
ignite Hagrid's beard with fire from his nostrils. But the book's 
subsequent sequence, in which a grownup Norbert is crated and carted 
away on broomsticks, alas, was never shot."

Now, if Hermione and Harry never take Norbert to be "carted away", 
how do they get the detention that lands them in the Forbidden Forest 
where they meet the centaurs and the unicorn?
