I've finally managed to catch up on the 26 digests I haven't had the 
time to read lately and this message I found the most intriguing and 
I had to reply.

I'm both for and against the Hermione theory.  I'm for it because it 
would make sense that it would "crucify" JKR because she has often 
said that she modeled the character of Hermione after herself as a 
young girl.  It would be extremely difficult (almost suicidal) to 
kill off a character that takes its origins from yourself.

I'm against it because there has been way too much plot development 
with the "pseudo-crush" that is going on between her and Ron to kill 
her off right now.  It would also be way too difficult for Ron and 
Harry to lose someone that close to them.  They're not deep enough in 
the fight against Voldemort yet for that to happen.  Diggery's death 
had such an impact on Harry that he really wouldn't handle Hermione's 
death well.  

Besides, would you really want to read 2 whole other books that just 
focus on Harry and Ron's revenge for the death of their best friend?  
It would be way too simplistic of a plot.
