Aha! Sounds like here's somebody else who thinks
self-loathing is at least a contributing factor to
Snape's disagreeableness. Part of it is of course
simply his nature, I imagine he's always been sharp
tongued, impatient with fools and tended to hold
grudges but guilt and self hatred add an extra edge of
nastiness. I suspect he did some things as a DE he
cannot now forgive himself for.
I assume we will someday find out why he turned
back to the good side and just what he did to make
Dumbledore trust him. Should be darned interesting.
