Hello HPfGUs,

first post so please don't throw anything to hard ;)

Couldn't Fawkes have come up from behind the snakes head, able to see
where the eyes are without looking into them? Isn't it the eye contact
that kills? It's been a while since I've read CoS so I may be all
wet....but that is how I envisioned things.

Now on to another thread that I wanted to discuss. My favorite characters are:
* Remus Lupin...he just reminds me of Dr. Banner from the Incredible
Hulk, he's a good person who happens to turn into a monster.
Tragically, he wanders around settling in places for short periods of
time until his secret is discovered and he has to move on.

* Sirius Black...I love the name! I find it ironic that his name is a
homonym for serious when it sounds like he was about as serious as
Fred Weasley when he was in school. And how could he turn into
anything other than a black dog when when he is named after the dog
star. He seems like a well meaning, protective hothead. I can't wait
to see his character develop further

* Albus Dumbledore...he reminds me of the great wizards Gandolph &
Merlin. He let's you get in too enough trouble to where your just
about done for and then he sweeps in to save the day. I just get
excited every time he pops up because I know we are in for a
treat...another morsel of knowledge...a piece of the puzzle.

Honorable mentions: the Weasley Family, Harry Potter, & Mad-Eye Moody

Love to hate:
* Draco Malfoy...what fun would it be without the non-threatening
enemy that taunts and gloats.

* Vernon Dursley...I honestly don't know why he consents accepting
Harry each summer. There must be some redeeming quality underneath
that bushy mustache.

* Mad-Eye Crouch...that guy had me loving Mad-eye Moody. Little did I
know that his hate for the death eater's was due to their disloyalty.
It was a blast going through the GoF a second time knowing that he was
the bad guy and seeing everything in a new light. Almost as fun as
watching the Sixth Sense for the second time.

Honorable mentions: Snape, Riddle/Voldermort

Just plain Hate:
Hermione Granger...OK, so I got over this by the end of SS, but it
resurfaces in just about every book. She just reminds me too much of
the girl in junior high who blew the whistle on me all the time.

Dobbie/Winky...hate the way they talk! I find them to be the Jar Jar
Binks of the HP books.

Lockhart...I can't help but feel that this is JKR's equivalent of the
song "You're So Vain!" I'd love to find out the story behind his
creation. Must be her ex-husband or an ex-boyfriend that inspired this
character. She did an excellent job of making him quite hate-able!

Honorable mentions: Lucius Malfoy, the Creeve brothers, all the
slytherins not mentioned in Love to Hate :)

Best regards,
Jason, whose favorite book is PoA (due to Lupin and Black) and least
favorite is CoS (pobably due to Dobbie).
