Maybe Snape has the night patrol?  Dumbledore may have the teachers take 
patrols because of all of the bad things that began to happen once 
Voldermort began his rise to power.  Maybe it's just as innocent as him 
being the night watch guy.  Harry almost always carried out his schemes at 
night so they always ended up running in to each other. Just a thought.
