Sorry I didn't have a chance to write up my own answers to these
questions earlier, but I was undecided anyway. Should I pick
something fun, something easy, something exciting, or something that
would come in handy upon graduation?
At first, I thought this would be an easy question. DADA, of course,
because Lupin and Moody are among my favorites. I suppose I could
survive Lockhart to have a go with Lupin and Moody. But then, if I
can only be trained in one magical art, DADA doesn't sound as useful
as some of the others (although Fleur's experience shows that when
you need DADA, you *really* need DADA). How often is one really
likely to encounter a dementor or hinkypunk in the real world, anyway?
Flying also sounds great, but I think it would get old quickly, and
I'm not sure I'd enjoy getting hit with bludgers.
So I think I'm settling on Transfiguration, which I assume includes
becoming an animagus and Apparating. Apparating would eliminate the
need to fly for transportation (for the most part), and being an
animagus is certainly handy. Charms is important, but in the end, it
really is only an incantation with a swish and flick, so I think I'd
get bored. Transfiguration sounds more challenging than Charms in
the end.
Least favorite is a toss-up between Ancient Runes and History of
Magic, although I'll choose the former as least favorite because I
was never any good at language. Besides, most history becomes
interesting if you immerse yourself in it for long enough.
