The description of the Lethifold is startlingly similar to the 
description of the unicorn killer in SS/PS:
Then, out of the shadows, a hooded figure came crawling 
across the ground like some stalking beast. Harry, Malfoy and 
Fang stood transfixed. The cloaked figure reached the unicorn..."

If Malfoy thought he was facing a lethifold, his panic becomes 
alot more understandable, IMO.
