Sorry if this has all been discussed to death, but I am new to the
list. Just wanted to throw out my theory on the conclusion to the
series.

JKR has mentioned the prophecy that the heir to Gryffindor will
defeat the heir to Slytherin. If, as we suspect, Voldemort is the
heir to Slytherin, then maybe Harry is the heir to Gryffindor.

When Harry defeated Tom Riddle in CoS, Fawkes brought Harry the
Sorting Hat, from which he pulled the Gryffindor dagger. I believe
that Dumbledore made a cryptic comment about that at the time,
something about there being a reason Harry could pull the dagger out
of the hat.

Also, I think Harry will be the heir through his mother, which will
be interesting, as we all know Lily Potter to be Muggle-born, but I
think JKR will start revealing some interesting family history there
as it has been mentioned in interviews that more information will
come out about James and Lily.

So, Voldemort couldn't kill Harry as a small baby for the sole reason
that Harry is the heir to Gryffindor. I think the final book will
end with a gigantic battle between Harry and Voldemort, with each as
an animagus - Voldemort as the Slytherin snake and Harry as the
Gryffindor lion.

Just wanted to see what others were thinking,
Jennifer
