Wow, it's been a while since the last time I posted! I've been so busy.
Anyway, I was just taking a study break and I came across something
interesting. I was reading the Leaky Cauldron HP news, and, according to
them, Entertainment Weekly ran a character sketch on Dumbledore that said he
"owes his life to Hagrid...though that has yet to be explained."
Interesting, very interesting. Any thoughts on this? I don't recall this
being brought up before. First of all, has anyone actually read this
article? I couldn't find anything like it on their website, but maybe it's
only in the magazine itself. Even if it's not true, though, it raises some
interesting speculation, doesn't it? We've talked about Hagrid and his
connections to Voldemort, the giants, etc, but I don't know if we really
ever came to any conclusions on just *why* Dumbledore trusts him so much and
keeps him as gamekeeper, other than the fact that Dumbledore is a trusting
man.
I had never really thought about it before, but maybe there is something
more to Dumbledore's statement to McGonagall in the beginning of SS that he
would trust Hagrid with his life. And there are other instances of
Dumbledore's immense faith in Hagrid. JKR does occasionally seem to go out
of her way to show that Dumbledore *really* trusts Hagrid.
What does everyone think? I'd love to hear your speculations.
