What about the lineage of Gryffindor's heir being through father not 
mother? Could Harry be the heir to Gryffindor through his James?

I think that an important thing to remember is that Harry speaks 
parsel-tongue so it is possible that he might also be a snake 
animagus. The clue: book one when the snake talks to him at the zoo 
before he even knows that he is a wizard.
