Hey, everyone.

I, personally, am re-reading SS before the big movie premiere this
week. I was especially looking for characterizations, to remember
how I imagine Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the like. I want to have a
set "before" view of them, as the movie is probably going to change
them.

One thing I noticed when we first meet Harry is that he brushed a
*spider* off of his *socks*. Spiders and socks both appear lots of
times in other books, as you all know. I think that they must
symbolize *something*.

Spider: What is something that Ron is afraid of and that Harry lived
with before he discovered he was a wizard?

Socks: What is something that Dobby loves to mis-match, Harry's are
too big and bulky, and the pseudo-Moody saw?

They have to stand for something, but I can't pinpoint what. Any
thoughts? And, sorry for the scattered sentence structure; I just
finished a 15 page essay for History and am essayed out.

PS: Appologies if this is off-topic; I wasn't sure which group to
post to.
