If you are just focusing on the first book, then yes, I feel that the book
is appropriate for children. When I first started reading the book last
year (I am 22 now), it reminded me strongly of Enid Blyton's fairy tales,
for some reason. At any rate, I started reading those books when I was
around 5 or 6.

I do, however, recall being disturbed by the sacrifice of the Lion in the
Chronicles of Narnia, so book 4 may be a bit too intense for such young
children.
