 Uhm, yes. I crossposted this to Snapefans, and I went into greater detail on the theme of Severus' near-hysterical aversion to Sirius. Everyone already knew from years before that Sirius had, in fact, nearly killed Severus *as a prank*. If the "Potter worthy/Snape unworthy" family connection idea holds true, it would naturally follow that Snape would strongly and bitterly resent James wanting Sirius Black the irresponsible attempted murderer for Harry's godson.  Neither James nor Severus give each other benefit of the doubt. Severus doesn't even logically have to be interested in being Harry's godfather himself - it would still be an insulting snub for James to have chosen *Sirius*  over a relative or even someone like Professor McGonagall.
