Am just catching up on 2 days of email that I missed while traveling, and
wanted to chime in with a few book thoughts about child protagonists.
I know Jenny from Ravenclaw mentioned Pat Conroy- specifically Lords of
Discipline {boarding school exclusiv ely} and both Prince of Tides and Beach
Music which cover childhood to adulthood for the protagonists, and of course
his "protege" Anne River Siddons, whose Peachtre Road also covers the same
style of "life story".
Jane Smiley's Moo is about collegians as is She's Come Undone from
Wally-whose-last-name-escapes-me. Basketball Diaries is about high
schoolers, and John Irving's Prayer for Owen Meany and Hotel New Hampshire
focus on teens. In other words, at least from PoA onward, if the
qualification for "children's books" doesn't apply to the ones I listed
above then it doesn't apply to HP, imho.
