I think it has been proved that Hagrid was over exaggerating. I think
he may have been better off saying "most dark wizards come from
Slytherin"
knrc> Did all the dark wizards come from Hogwarts?

knrc> didn't really?
Karkaroff...as a former DE I'd say he was probably teaching the dark
arts.

My vote has always been for Hufflepuff, but that's a gut feeling based
on personality traits not canonical evidence. I agree that no Mud
Blood and very few 1/2 Bloods would be admitted into Slytherin. The
sorting hat was to created make the decisions the founders would have
made. You can be DARN sure that Salizar Slytherin would not admit a
mud blood. Remember, he made the chamber of secrets to purge the
school of mud bloods, why would he admit any into his house.

I believe Harry described the dementors as having a skeletal
hand. That has always led me to believe them something akin to
zombies...an undead sort of thing. To answer the muggle weapon
question. I'd venture to say that it may set them back something like
a feeble patronus. But we have no information as to whether their is
anyway to destroy a dementor.
