I was about to enter the argument that toads couldn't possibly live that
long but decided to do a little research first and your excellent theories
could work.
According to www.allaboutfrogs.org "The longest lifespan entered was a
European Common Toad (Bufo bufo ssp.) at 40 years!!!!! "
I still find myself wondering why Hogwarts would allow any pets other than
the very useful owls and why them if they already have an owlery? And why
toads and cats? I know that these animals are traditionally associated with
witches but the image of 400-1000 children with cats and toads and owls
that need to be cared for/cleaned up after seems odd. Can you imagine the
noise from all the crickets needed to feed the toads (at least that's what
we fed the toads/frogs at the wildlife hospital where I used to volunteer
and that's what they seem to sell at the pet stores)? And why, they can
have cats, can't they have dogs? (I'm a dog person.)
Catherine in California still too full after too much turkey and
pie. Hmmm. Pie for breakfast. Now there's a thought.
