I'm new too.  I started reading them because my mother had just bought
the UK editions for the learning center she runs and I'd been getting
pressured by my friends to read them.  The year before, when I started
writing a story about a teenage girl in a college of sorcery, my
creative writing class told me to read them as well.  So, I gave in. 
And then I couldn't put them down!

It probably helped that Prof. Snape is EXACTLY the kind of character I
always adore.

By way of a brief introduction: I'm Ealasaid, I live in California, and
I'm addicted to books of nearly all kinds, rock music, web designing (my
web empire is at www.ealasaid.com ), and movies.  :)
