I, too, think Hella's post was very intriguing and thought-provoking.

Boy, I don't think I agree with Hella's friend's view of Hermione.
Moody was a powerful auror, yet Hermione didn't bond too closely with
him. Remember when she questioned Moody's plan to put the Imperius
Curse on the students, and he invited her to leave? She hardly ever
talks to Dumbledore directly, and he is quite powerful. She also
doesn't seem to cozy up to Fudge, who is the Minister of Magic, for
cryin' out loud. On the other hand, Hermione is quite nice to Hagrid
and Neville, who are about as far from powerful as you can get.

Maybe what Hella's friend is really saying is that Hermione is
impressed by fame, not power. Fame, rather than power, is what
Lockhart had. Krum is also famous, and Hermione got along well with
him. But then again, Moody is definitely famous, yet Hermione is not
especially close to Moody. And Hermione's closest teacher/student
relationships seem to be with McGonagal and Hagrid, who are neither
famous nor especially powerful (politically, I mean).

So, you see, it is possible to like and respect Hermione and be a
committed non-shipper. :-)
