To add to Catlady's speculations about Krum's age:
 
(1) it could depend upon birth dates and term commencements.  I was 18 when
I graduated from high school because I had a January birthday and started on
the late rather than the early side;
 
(2) Krum is also a world-caliber jock.  Somewhere along the line he could
have been red shirted a year -- that is deliberately held back a grade for
athletic purposes to allow him to mature.  This is not an unusual phenomenon
in the USA in high school athletics, so for all I know it happens in wizard
education as well.
 
One thing I find unusual is that Quidditch is not played between wizard
academies, as are sports in the USA between various high schools and
colleges.  Quidditch seems to jump straight from intra-mural to
professional/world class level.  Is that the way is is with other sports in
the UK, such as soccer/football, cricket and rugby?
