The fate of the Chamber of Secrets

So what's happened to the Chamber of Secrets after HP discovered its
existence and how to get there?  Was it destroyed or sealed up permanently?
Would its destruction be seen as an affront to Slytherin?  Is the pipe to
the girls' restroom the only way in, or is there a more conventional, if
concealed entrance for people rather than snakes?
 
Perhaps the Chamber became the new Slytherin dormitory or Snape's new class
room.  Seems like a waste just to get rid of it after all those centuries.
