Nicholas Flamel and Albus Dumbledore did make the stone granting it!
I myself wouldn't want to live forever. It'd be just not... worth it. 
Those about to die at old age, are usually ready for it as well.

Voldemort just wants Power over everything - including death! and 
thinks no further, since lust for power is quite hollow in itself.
