"His [Lupin's] appearence has always struck me as odd, in that Rowling
describes him as looking "ill and Exhausted" I know that his warewolf status
could
very well be the cause of this but surely not all, maybe he has
Experienced the Dementors before as Lucy has implied."*
You know, I would have to agree with this assessment. The transformation
into a werewolf could be a bit exhausting, but to the point where Lupin
appears to be so "rough around the edges" most of the time? I have two
theories as to why this could be, the first one, I have to thank
MadAboutSteps for.
*I kind of get the feeling that Lupin is an auror, regardless of his werewolf
status. He may come into contact with the Dementors while taking prisoners
to Azkaban on a regular basis. He may even work there (which I doubt because
that would have put him too close to Sirius). Yet, that brings up another
question. Surely there aren't just Dementors running Azkaban, are there?
Someone has to be there to keep them in line or else they'd be kissing
everyone in there! I feel dementors are strictly for guard duty and
undesirab;e tasks, such as burial duty.
*In "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" it says that werewolves are an
oddity because they always try to seek out human prey.
"Almost uniquely among fantastic creatures, the werewolf actively seeks
humans in preferance to any other kind of prey" (pg. 42)
I am under the assumption that Lupin has never killed another human (or if he
has, VERY few) while in his transformed state. Perhaps the lack of these
dietary preferences accounts for his diminished state.
