Well, I'll be darned.  Vampyres aren't in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find 
Them".  Now  that's just odd considering that they are mentioned a time or 
two in the HP books.  It does seem in one of the books, Harry, Ron, and 
Hermione made a comment about Snape probably being able to turn into a bat.  
LOL  I would imagine the vampyres in the books do prey on humans but can 
possibly survive on other sources for blood, as well.  The kids speculate 
that Quirrel's turban is stuffed with garlic due to his fear of vampyres and 
Lockheart has mentioned his dealings with them.  I believe he met one who 
could only eat lettuce after he was through with it...
