H's B'day/Birthday cut off

Ignoring the other bit about later cut off dates because it is 
irrelevent, I would just like to point out that in year 7/ Harry's 
first year, going on what you said about being 12 for all of four 
days in your first year, well you wouldn't be, you would be 11 for 
all but four days of your first year!

When you go in to year 7/Harry's first year you are 11 and then have 
your 12th birthday DURING that year. That is where the HP books are a 
bit unclear with HP's birthday, as he actually celebrates the "wrong" 
(so to speak) Birthday in each book.

Example:
Book 1 is Year 1, Muggle year 7: Harry Celebrates his 11th Birthday 
but that is actually the birthday he would celebrate in Muggle year 6 
(a year that Hogwarts doesn't have) 

Book 2 is Year 2, Muggle Year 8: Harry Celebrates his 12th Birthday 
but that is actually the Birthday from the year before (year 1)
etc, so Harry's Birthdays are actually one book behind the year he is 
actually in (and I should think that not one Brit will dissagree on 
that, they might just explain it in a better way than me)

Generally speaking (and going on Ron an Harry's Birthdays plus the 
september the frist starting date, it is the same at Hogwarts) you 
celebrate the following birthday in each year 

Hog Year 1/ Mug Year 7: 12th 
Hog Year 2/ Mug Year 8: 13th
Hog Year 3/ Mug Year 9: 14th
Hog Year 4/ Mug Year 10: 15th
Hog Year 5/ Mug Year 11: 16th
Hog Year 6/ Mug Year 12: 17th
Hog Year 7/ Mug Year 13: 18th

You leave when you are 18 (or 17 if your brithday is in July - Aug - 
hence Harry will leave Hogwarts when he is only 17) Although as I 
said previously (sp) you are only taken off your school Role at the 
end of August in your specific year.
