I don't think that LM had any interest in HP with respect to the planting of
Voldemort/Riddle's diary.  I agree with the motive mentioned in the text --
that LM was trying to bring about the political fall of Arthur Weasley and
AW's muggle protection act by arranging it so that a Weasley would be caught
terrorizing muggle-borns in league with the heir of Slytherin.
