Hmm...I always thought the light orb and connected light on the wands
happened while they were floating in the air, not when they landed. But I
haven't re-read any of the books for a good few months.
I think the brief levitation was simply to convey the extreme power of the
spell. It was probably to show us just how important and powerful and
dramatic this particular spell is. It was a visual created to have a bigger
impact of this scene
