I too have been wondering why JKR has insisted that
Harry's eye color is so important... I had wondered
when I first read SS if the flash of green light that
Harry remembers had anything to with that. However I
think it may be a coincidence that the light and his
eyes are the same color, since in GoF Harry witnesses
the A.K. curse several times and the flash of green
light preceded death in everyone, not just Lily. I
suppose I've always thought that the magical
protection Lily gave Harry was from the actual
sacrifice of herself, not because she had cast a
spell-- just as Harry and Pettigrew have a magical
connection (without the use of a spell) from when
Harry saved Pettigrew's life. But anything is
possible. If your theory is correct, perhaps this
where the importance of Lily's propensity for a wand
that is "good for charm work" comes in.
As for Harry's eye color in the movie, I'm not sure if
that was deliberate or just a difficulty the
filmmakers had during editing. Baby Harry's eyes are
definitely blue in the movie, but when he is older,
his eye color appears to psychedelicly change from
blue in some scenes and green in others. While I did
find this glitch amusing, again I think this may have
been due to the fact that it is probably difficult to
digitally edit someone's eye color without the use of
contacts during filming. If we assume that JKR
specified that, to preserve authenticity and relevance
in future books, Baby Harry's eyes should be blue in
the movie due to details that will be revealed in
future books, wouldn't the filmmakers made other
details that are already in the books more authentic
in the movie-- such as finding an actor to play James
with more of a resemblance to Harry/Daniel Radcliffe--
or am I the only one who was disappointed in their
choice? (Not to mention that Daniel Radcliffe's hair
was decidedly NOT untidy.) I felt that there were
many details that JKR insinuates are important in the
books that were not present in the movie-- and Harry's
eye color may have just been another ommited detail.
