personally i think that JKR hadn't decided what she was going to do and
wanted to introduce characters with a bang and the transfiguration thing is
great (obviously so that the movie had to do it more than it's done in the
book) and I'm sure Dumbledore would of recognized her since in PoA they say
that there's a data base on all animage and what markings they have, etc....i
just put it on JKR not being sure how she wanted everything to go. Plus
McGonagall has shown the most compassion to Harry besides Dumbledore (forgive
me if i'm missing something i've yet to read GoF) And hadn't people already
been celebrating, etc since early in the day when Dursley went to work which
would of been around 9 and that's when she arrived at their house because he
sees her heading over so maybe she had some idea what would happen.....well
that's just my opinion and only my 4th post so! i'm sorry if i'm out of line
or anything just trying to get in the swing of things since i jsut started
reading the books 1 week ago!
