Thank you for pointing that out.  We are now three years past what 
would have been the end of Harry's seventh year in school for a 
couple of reasons:  

1) IIRC, JKR did not manage to sell the first book immediately and 
spent a year or two shopping it around to various publishers.  

2) She has not managed to produce a book a year, especially since 
GoF was so massive and she has been dedicating a lot of time to film 
oversight.  

It is also valuable to remember that when there were celebrations 
being held around the world this summer for Harry's 21st birthday, 
JKR did not hold a press conference objecting to or rebutting this.  
Penny would probably know better than I whether she actually 
participated in any of the celebrations, but it's been accepted for 
quite some time that his birthdate is July 31, 1980.
