They're probably called something medieval, like clarks or
bursars. I imagine Malfoy's family employs a steward.

Um, wasn't there a guy in Book One who kept trying to make off
with some stone or other? <g>
But Siriusly,
FB suggests that many magical beasts were bred specifically
as treasure guardians.
The preface to QTA refers to a Thief's Curse and suggests
that unfortunate things may happen to bookstore browsers.
Wands get stolen: Lockhart takes Ron's, Riddle takes Harry's,
so does Crouch.
Snape's personal supply cabinet is the target of many a
student, one House Elf, and a teacher we know of.
Fred and George nipped the Marauder's Map from Filch's
files, and claimed to be stealing food from the kitchens. In any
case, their facility with hairpins suggests a casual attitude
toward property rights. And they stole The Car.
JKR said that the Ministry keeps track of wizards so they can't
Apparate into Muggle banks and steal money.
Hogwarts does seem immune to the kind of casual pilfering I
remember from High School. It's probably not worth
risking a curse.
I wonder if wizarding moneybags act like the one in The
Hobbit?
