No, there is no mention of Quirrell's turban in the Leaky Cauldron.
Furthermore, we know that Voldemort didn't "keep a closer eye" on
Quirrell until after the failed bank robbery attempt -- which
happened later in the day from Harry/Quirrell meeting at the pub.
> 3. Messiah plot - OH NO! Please, I hope that JKR has more
originality than to have some ridiculous old prophesy lurking about
ready to tout Harry as the Kwisatch Hadarach - oops, I mean the one
who had come to bring redemption - oops, I mean the one who is to
bring balance to the Force.... I'm sure you get my point. This has
been DONE TO DEATH. I think the "Order of the Phoenix" sounds a lot
like the "Order of Merlin," and may simply be a group of people who
have been awarded this medal at one point or another. Or Harry may be
awarded it during book 5. We have no proof whatsoever that Sirius,
Lupin, or any of the others belong to this order.
Done to death? The prevailing theory is that every possibly story
permutation (in a generic sense) has been done to death -- it's
presentation and setting that make a story original, ironically --
not the story. I don't see that this is any more "done to death"
than any other plot device. However, the prophecy is the theory that
best fits the evidence so far: Trelawny's first prophecy, Voldemort's
obsession with killing the Potters, Dumbledore's refusal to answer
why the Potters where such targets, etc.
Also, keep in mind, Star Wars had no mention of a prophecy until the
Phantom Menace. JKR starting writing the Harry Potter books -- and
has apparently sketched out the plot for the entire series at that
time -- long before the release of the Phantom Menace.
> 4. Someone mentioned that maybe JKR would do something really
original and make Ron the focus of the fifth book. Did anyone catch
the interview (I think it was AOL October 2000) where JKR, when asked
why she would stop at 7 books instead of writing Harry's whole life,
replied that everyone seemed pretty confident Harry would still be
alive after book 7. THAT would be original and shocking! What are
people's thoughts on Harry dying in Book 7 and leaving Ron to carry
on in his place?
I've seen that in more than one place, but I see no evidence
whatsoever that it will happen. I think it would be a poor move,
especially considering what the core of her audience is. My personal
opinion is that she's just saying that so the fans don't make any
assumptions about the story ahead of time. Because she has a love of
hidden plot twists that turn our expectations on their heads, I can
see why she would want to encourage this type of thinking.
