Been lurking for a bit but emerged out of the shadows to add my 2 
knuts worth as to Quirrell's/Voldemort's smell...
I think that Voldemort smells bad because, think about it, when's the 
last time the guy had a shower? Someone earlier referred to "Moldy 
Voldy", and, since he is "undead", so to speak, I would imagine some 
sort of stench follows along with that. Eau de crypt, if you will. 
Maybe JKR had Quirrell smell funny just to emphasize the point that 
the guy is nasty. I mean, if you've got someone's face on the back of 
your head, you're nasty. Although it would come in handy when riding 
in the car with kids in the back seat...
